I have done some copyediting, but I don't think this draft is ready for publication. It takes a very positive attitude, constantly singing the school's praise, without but a single independent source. Claims of greatness must be verifiable from reliable sources that are independent of the subject, such as newspapers or reputable education journals. The school's own website is not a sufficient source for such claims, nor the websites of organizations closely affiliated with the school. I have liberally sprinkled the draft with "citation needed" tags for statements that should be sourced or removed (and quite a few should probably be removed, such as the alumni's praise when most of the "notable" alumni apparently aren't notable enough for a Wikipedia article), but that doesn't mean everything I didn't tag is unproblematic. In one particularly obvious example the article calls the school "our school".

The draft will be moved into the main article namespace by the reviewer when it's accepted. However, the draft does not cite any reliable sources such as newspapers or articles in reputable music magazines. To be considered notable by Wikipedia's standards, Barton must have been the subject of significant coverage in such sources, and without sources we cannot accept the draft.

You may also want to have a look at our guideline on conflicts of interest. Writing an autobiography is strongly discouraged because it's very difficult to maintain a neutral point of view about oneself. Huon (talk) 16:38, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The details of uploading depend on the image's copyright status. If the image has been released under a free license such as the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License (or if you own the copyright and are willing to release the image under such a license), you can upload it to the Wikimedia Commons via their Upload Wizard. Wikipedia itself allows non-free images that fall under fair use, but only if such images are used in at least one article - a draft is not enough.

Once the image is uploaded, the picture tutorial explains how to add it to an article.

On an entirely unrelated note, your draft's references need some work. Firstly, you should use inline citations and footnotes to clarify which source supports which of the draft's statements. Secondly, the references themselves are so vague that I couldn't ascertain what "More Mercury" refers to (the Leicester Mercury's magazine? Isn't that a weekly publication?), and Just TV/TS doesn't seem to be a reputable news site, but an escort service directory. Thank you for getting back to me about this with regard to uploading photos to the article. On your second point, I accept that the draft as it stands still needs more work on it. I have asked Shinata to send me more details of the publications in which she has appeared, notably the dates in which articles about her appeared. I think "More Mercury" is the weekly magazine for the 'Leicester Mercury'. I'll check this out and again see if she can provide the date in which she appeared, although she has sent me a photo of the cover on which she was featured and which is one of the photos I want to attach to the article, although there's no date on it. As for "Just TV/TS", it appears that there is an escort site of this name to which you provided the link and which I wasn't aware of. However there is also a magazine which bears the same name. I shall check out whether the two are related and if so that source will be removed. Thank you for the advice. Please bear with me and I'll do what I can to rectify the points you raise to improve the draft for publication. I would like to add that Shinata does have a considerable following on Twitter and Facebook, and as such has become something of a role model for young transpeople wishing to consider transitioning. First of all you may want to have a look at our guideline on conflicts of interest. Writing about a topic you're closely associated with is discouraged because it's difficult to maintain a neutral point of view. Regarding "Just TV/TS", my Google searches didn't come up with anything relevant that didn't originate with Sangha herself, such as her Facebook page. Uploading photos of magazine covers or articles is highly problematic because those are almost guaranteed not to be freely licensed, and we probably cannot claim fair use for them either.

I did find, however, this news article that discusses Sangha's film career and mentions some relevant biographical details, such as the fact that "Shinata Sangha, 20, comes from a Hindu-Punjabi background", which contradicts the draft's claim of a Sikh background. All Wikipedia content should be verifiable from reliable published sources, but this draft's content mostly seems to be based on personal knowledge instead.

While I appreciate what you try to do, it unfortunately runs afoul of what Wikipedia is not - we're an encyclopedia, not a help service for young trans* people, however noble that would be. Besides, the draft currently reads more like a promotional piece singing her praise than something genuinely helpful to people interested in transition, and our article on transitioning would probably a better place for information relevant to that topic anyway. Thank you for your detailed response. I don't in fact know Shinata very well at all. I was asked by a friend of hers to write up a page for her on Wikipedia because I have had some experience of writing and editing. So I do appreciate what you say and the fact that her Wikipedia page should not be promotional guff but more in line with someone who has achieved a certain success in a career that would normally be unthinkable for people like her. I read the article to which you gave me the link and thought it was very poor. For example Shinata was referred to as "he" throughout and it is clear that she is anything but !! - So I would question the accuracy of that article. Point taken about the magazine covers. I will communicate your very valid points to Shinata and suggest to her ways in which her page can be re-orientated to respect Wikipedia's guidelines and also be something that will be of wider interest than to just those who live and work within the Transgender community. I think that a possible way of doing this would be to look at the Wikipedia pages on Transgender and Transitioning that you suggest and use them as an inspiration (please note that I mean inspiration and NOT cut & paste !) and rewrite the draft so that the information contained in those articles can be applied to a real person, Shinata. I have successfully registered references, but how do I link to other Wiki entries? Or does the system do that automatically? For example, John Watney's first wife was Raquel Senoret, and I see she has a stub that is an orphan. How do I turn her name blue so as to link to her stub?
