- Nominator's rationale: This contains alumni of the elementary school, not the graduate school. It isn't verified in either of the two articles in this category. power~enwiki (π, ν) 19:25, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- Nominator's rationale: The relevant ISO 639 codes as applied to redirects aren't working as expected. While the 639 codes when used with lang-xx do function as expected (Balochi: کویته, lit. 'Quetta'), it doesn't work with {{R from language}}. It just says 'undetermined language' and fails to categorize. Same with all of its dialects. — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 17:04, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Mr. Guye, I take it that your goal is to have the {{R from alternative language}} template work for Balochi, rather than to have the category deleted. The template appears to recognise a language code only if the relevant category exists, with the exact spelling as given by the tables used in Module:Lang. I don't know if this behaviour was introduced in the recent overhaul of the template, or whether it is desirable at all (pinging someone who might know). This failed for the individual Balochi varieties because the categories don't exist yet, and it failed for Balochi itself because the category uses the alternative spelling Baluchi. The solution is to move this category to Category:Redirects from Balochi-language terms (which is in line both with the title of the wikipedia article and with the standard name expected by the template). – Uanfala (talk) 17:50, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- @Uanfala: Yes, you are right about my intentions. I don't want this deleted. I want this to work. But should the spelling really matter though? The ISO 639-2 code
bal
refers to the language, not the spelling. "Bal" is contained in both spellings. From experience, if you use an ISO 639 code that is recognized but there is no category for, it shows up as a red category. That's not happening here. I don't care so much about which spelling variant it chooses as long as it refers to the language intended. — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 18:43, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- (edit conflict)
- The old
{{lang|bal}}
got the language name from {{ISO 639 name bal}}
which returns the name 'Baluchi' (the ISO 639-2 and ISO 639-3 standard spelling so the correct output for the ISO 639 name template). Old {{lang}}
used that language name to build the category wikilink to Category:Articles containing Baluchi-language text. New {{lang|bal}}
gets the language name from Module:Language/data/wp languages (one of two modules that Module:Lang uses to override ISO 639 / IANA language names) where bal
has been mapped to 'Balochi' since it was added at this version. {{R from alternative language}}
uses {{lang}}
's data tables so should be using 'Balochi'. When the language code is bal
:
{{#invoke:Lang|name_from_code|bal}}
→ Script error: The function "name_from_code" does not exist. (this {{#invoke:}}
used in current version of {{R from alternative language}}
)
{{ISO 639 name bal}}
→ Baluchi (this template used in previous version)
- Old version of
{{lang-bal}}
always returned 'Balochi' as does the current version.

- I don't know if this helps or hinders. I have no opinion on the question to hand.

- Nominator's rationale: Eponymous category for a city neighbourhood, which consists only of a redirect and a navbox template. There's no pressing need for this, as a city with a population of just 155K does not need to have its contents obsessively subcategorized down to each individual neighbourhood within it. - Nominator's rationale: Inappropriate category for deaths in one particular borough of a single city. We don't even categorize people by country in which they died, let alone by individual city or borough within that country. Bearcat (talk) 01:14, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nominator. Per the long-standing guidance at WP:Categorization of people#By_place that "The place of death is not normally categorized". --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 04:36, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nominator and User:BrownHairedGirl's provision of the guidance located at WP:Categorization of people#By_place. As an aside and an FYI, if one is not already aware, Wikidata has a property, category for people who died here: Property:P1465 which is utilized to create the claim Category:Deaths in XYZ for the place of death (Q18658526) XYZ, e.g., Category:Deaths in Moscow (Q6378606). This Wikidata claim is a source of categorical data for multiple language Wikipedias, Wikinews, Wikisource, and Wikimedia Commons. (See at the bottom of the page.) Dcflyer (talk) 06:09, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete place of death has not been accepted as defining, and hence categorization by it is not appropriate. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:32, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
