The article is intended to show a fixed ranking of the top ten earning Telugu films of all time by box office collection. Unfortunately there are no reliable sources that will be able to provide this. In the specific example of Arundhati, two sources are provided but neither match the claimed gross figure in rupees due to one source relating to a transient early box office estimate and the other showing a ranking in US dollars for a particular year's income but not an all-time income and the conversion to rupees will be problematic. The ranking of different years, say, comparing 1996 income with a film from 2009 is virtually meaningless financially or statistically and is misleading when compared to the lead criteria. It may be possible to copy a snap shot list of films by box-office income but this would not be maintainable from year to year and would fail the WP:SYNTH and WP:IINFO guidelines. This is a complex issue relating to what is considered of an encyclopaedic nature on Wikipedia and may determine the future of several similar articles (as listed in the See also section), so raising for wider discussion.   • Comment I propose a deletion for List of highest-grossing English-language films for the same reason that such lists can be considered non notable or un-maintainable for non-English (Telugu language) films. Sure, the Telugu list is quite short... and perhaps proper sourcing could be added by Indian Wikipedians... but such information can be eventually sourced for any such list, no matter the country. And sure, while such films might be notable for Telugu films, we can either grant a notability to a short sourced list of films notable in Telugo, or we may as well grant that Wikipedia has no need for such improvable list in any language.     • Good luck with that nomination, I look forward to reading it. You may not be aware of the long debates about sourcing of box-office income even for the top films such as Enthiran. Unfortunately the issue is more complex for Indian film compared to the UK/USA film markets as there is no consistent credible reporting of box-office figures and so figures quoted in articles tend to be speculative estimates or confused with corporate revenue statistics rather than specific ticket sales.   • Delete The issue isn't notability of the films, but credibility of the sources involved. There is no clear or consistent methodology in the Indian media when it comes to reporting revenue and gross numbers for films. The film industries by design keep this opaque and the numbers are often planted my the production houses in the media to bolster their projects. Tax dodging, front companies, multiple business models for film distribution all come together to make the actual number "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma". Even whether a particular film was a "hit" or a "flop" is never agreed upon. I have seen countless arguments between fanboys regarding which film was a hit and which isn't and unfortunately, thats also the case with our media. This isn't something new. Reading magazines/newspapers from the 1950s, i find the same thing - one magazine puts a random namber as "vasool" and claims a film is a box office hit while some other magazine says it is a flop. --Sodabottle (talk) 19:06, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak delete. I would strongly disagree with a general proposition that there's something inherently non-encyclopedic about a "List of highest-grossing Fooian films". The obsessive attention that such lists have gotten for decades in journals like Variety speak to the notability of the subject. I also don't agree that the lists' notability is inherently defeated by problems with inflation or currency fluctuation: that's also something that Variety has been coping with for decades, and while it may go to the ultimate uses of the list it does not make them less notable. However, if it is in fact the case that verifiable sources don't exist for India's film industry, then I would have to agree that the lists don't survive WP:V. Thus, though I respectfully disagree with parts of the original nomination, I join in Sodabottle's reasoning.--Arxiloxos (talk) 20:07, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
