Creative visualization

Unnecessary derivative of Law of Attraction. It is not acknowledged as a notable concept by third-party independent sources. Only New Thought believers seem to write about this idea. ScienceApologist (talk) 21:19, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

comment -I'm predominantly a sceptic but I used to be interested in the New Age movement and this phrase/concept existed long before the Law of Attraction book or whatever-it-is. Sticky Parkin

(ec)Comment This idea appears to be identical to Law of Attraction, which is a more common term both in general and to describe Wattles' ideas. As another alternative to deletion, we might consider Glossary of New Thought terms; Glossary of alternative medicine attracts some cruft, but is not unmanageable. (edit conflict) definitely not, it exists in many cultures and is decades older than that. ::There are many Wp:RS for it.[1][2] I would say one of the most well known books on the subject is 'Creative Visualisation' by Shakti Gawain, which was written in 1978. Raymond Buckland discussed it in 1971, [3] and it was mentioned in a book on Tibetan mysticism in 1960 [4][5] Here it is used by I think Catholics in 1957, [6]and it was also proposed by some believers for use in social work. It was also discussed by Richard Bach. Whether all this means it's worth an article or just a redirect to New Age movement meditation or something, I don't know. It's also used in various forms of brief therapy [7] and it's been in WP:RS news articles 588 times [8] - back in a sec...Sticky Parkin 22:41, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's mentioned in the news with the spelling with an 's' another 120ish times. Here it is with the technique shown by the New York times to be in use in 1986 [9] in business, and 1987 in politics [10] . A book about it was reviewed in the Los Angeles times in 1990, discussing its use for couples sex lives . [11]. People even claim it can cure cancer, [12] apparently, which I think we should have an article just to debunk the health claims.:) It can help sportsmen, supposedly, and it's also used in education [13]. It's use for sport is mentioned in The Guardian [14]. New Scientist has said in 1990 that it's one of the new age techniques which may cause epileptic fits [15] so we could write a WP:NPOV article on it. Keep, reluctantly. Vague, pseudo-philosophical ideas compounded of glittering generalities do not appeal to me, but this one has been around for a long, long time, and is an attempt to provide some kind of theoretical basis for Couéism and other programs for psychic self-improvement. - Smerdis of Tlön (talk) 14:23, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
