Nomination statement (0xDeadbeef)
[edit]
Hi. I'm 0xDeadbeef, and I am applying for CheckUser permissions. I've clerked a lot at SPI and often noticed a large backlog. I believe that with my experience in processing SPI cases, I would be able to better help with the backlogs if granted CU permissions.
Standard questions for all candidates (0xDeadbeef)
[edit]
- Please describe any relevant experience you have for this role.
- I was appointed a trainee SPI clerk in January 2024, and was active in SPI as a patrolling administrator some time before that. Although I only got promoted to full SPI clerk a few months ago, I didn't feel like I was clerking with a need for supervision for a while, as I learned quickly through reading the documentation, observing how other clerks operated, and asking questions when needed. I am quite confident in my ability to evaluate behavior for suspicions of sockpuppetry, and I believe I have the relevant technical knowledge for the CU role. I have a good grasp of ASNs/IPs/UAs to be able to apply to CU work. In U4C work I have also helped with many private cases, some of which contain confidential/private information.
- Please list any advanced permissions (checkuser, oversight, bureaucrat, steward) you hold or previously held on any WMF project.
- None except for U4C membership.
- Do you have VRT permissions? If so, to which queues?
- Only the u4c queue at the moment.
Questions for this candidate (0xDeadbeef)
[edit]
- How active do you plan to be with CU tasks while on UCOC, and do you see this changing once you leave UCOC? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 05:40, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you for this question. A general statement about activity: Wikipedia remains a pastime activity for me. I don't make promises about a schedule/quota I'd adhere to, because I think that can quickly lead to burnout. I do believe that CU work is quite valuable to the project, and I'll try to prioritize my time into taming the backlogs, probably by participating less actively as I currently do in zhwiki community discussions.
- As for activity while on U4C: As above, CU work, in my opinion, is work that is both interesting and important. I might not become the #1 backlog clearer if appointed, but I would still like to contribute a considerable amount of time to SPI work, especially for CU requested/open cases. (while putting time into U4C work commitments at the same time) I wouldn't say for sure how my activity pattern would change if I leave U4C. My current term ends in about a year from now, and I am undecided on seeking reelection after my term ends. But it is entirely possible that CU becomes my main focus in terms of administrative backlogs here. 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 11:55, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm delighted to see 0xDeadbeef stand for CU, and hope that the Committee appoints them to the role. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 16:23, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- I am very happy to see Beef ask for this. They are a trusted colleague on the U4C. And to the question above, I show that it's entirely possible to be both an active U4C member and enwiki Checkuser. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:43, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Looks good to me! Mz7 (talk) 00:57, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

- I'd really appreciate having more CheckUsers around and I trust 0xDeadbeef would do well as one. Toadspike [Talk] 16:41, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- I've seen 0xDeadbeef around a bit in the more technical/developer areas and I can attest that they are very experienced and gifted developer who certainly will be able to interpret the technical elements CU data! From a look at their admin actions and content contributions, they are also excellent is these spaces as well. If this was a bolded !voting process, I'd support. I was very pleased when I saw the announcement of new CU candidates at AN, clicked on it, and then your name came up! Best of luck! :) MolecularPilot 🧪️✈️ 02:52, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
