Bihar Gramin Bank is an Indian regional rural bank (RRB) in the state of Bihar, India. The bank was incorporated on 1 May 2025 by amalgamating 2 RRBs namely Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank and Dakshin Bihar Gramin Bank.[1]Bihar Gramin Bank is sponsored by Punjab National Bank. The Bank operates in all 38 districts of Bihar state. The Bank has 2885 branches as on 1 May 2025.[2]It is under the ownership of Ministry of Finance, Government of India. [citation needed][3]
Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank was a regional rural bank (RRB) in the State of Bihar, India.[4] It was under the ownership of Ministry of Finance, Government of India. It was one of the largest regional rural banks in India in terms of branch network, staff strength and area of operation.[5][6]
The bank was created from the amalgamation of Uttar Bihar Kshetriya Gramin Bank and Kosi Kshetriya Gramin Bank(transferor regional rural banks) by Government of India in 1976 as per Gazette Notification issued by the Indian Ministry of Finance under Sub-Section (1) of Section 23 A of the Regional Rural Bank Act, 1976 (21 of 1976).[7] It was sponsored by Central Bank of India in the state of Bihar as a single regional rural bank.[4][8] The bank was headquartered in Muzaffarpur.[9][10] as on 1 may 2025 Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank has been merged with Dakshin Bihar Gramin Bank to form Bihar Gramin Bank.[11]
