Can the template be amended to omit redirects from its results? This is an important distinction from actual articles that should be made.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:55, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Please sync changes from Template:Draft article check/sandbox.
I've implemented the mainspace article existence check functionality for userspace - it's the same as how it works for draftspace, with the difference that by default the {{SUBPAGENAME}}
is considered rather than {{PAGENAME}}
. (This makes sense for userspace: eg. for User:SD0001/Barack Obama, the PAGENAME is "SD0001/Barack Obama" while SUBPAGENAME is "Barack Obama".)
So, if I'm drafting User:SD0001/Barack Obama and I include {{draft article}} (in which {{draft article check}} is transcluded), I'd get the message "There is already an article named Barack Obama in the mainspace."
This has been tested. SD0001 (talk) 09:20, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
