I'd appreciate testing of User:Trevj/Help:Userspace draft noprefixneeded this amended page. (I don't have the confidence to directly edit the main page now, considering its prominence.) As a rule of thumb, if the editor is an active editor, ask him. If he's not, consider emailing him. If he appears to be unreachable, and the userspace draft is clearly decent draft of a notable topic which does not have an article or a different draft (check Drafts: and Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/ ), consider moving it to either Draft: or WT:AFC/ or, if there's any chance that this might be controversial, opening a discussion on a relevant WikiProject or just create a new page from scratch. Whatever you do, bear in mind that making such a heavy edit to another user's page or moving it can come back to bite you.

One general exception: If you are making edits to enforce policy or guidelines that apply to either userspace drafts or user-sub-pages in general, then you should make that edit. Examples including hiding copyright violations and BLP violations or other things that are simply not appropriate for user-space, or moving a user-space draft that is on the user's actual user page to a sub-page (be sure to UN-CHECK the "also move talk page" checkbox). If you make any edits of this nature, it's polite (I would say "implicitly required") to notify the editor on his talk page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:38, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

After reading through this page, I'm still completely unsure of what a userspace draft is, or what a legitimate purpose of using one would be. Any help on this would be fantastic. Are userspace drafts a space where you can draft and save changes to an actual (mainspace...(?)) article? So they're saved somewhere prior to being published?--Kitty4777 (talk) 16:13, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

@Kitty4777 A userspace draft gives you a place to strengthen your article (especially finding additional sources) before putting it up in mainspace, where it will be subject to more scrutiny. If you create a userspace draft and keep working on it, it generally will not be deleted, whereas new page patrollers often have little patience for pages that sound promotional or don't make a sufficient claim to notability. You don't have to make a userspace draft before posting a new page. Some editors just prefer having a place to organize either a new article or large changes to an existing article in their userspace before throwing it out into the mainspace where everybody can jump on it. On the page;

it seems like; the sentence,
Userspace Drafts are typically made on a "user subpage" (e.g. User:Example/Lipsum). ...
needs to be updated as;
Userspace Drafts are typically made on a "user subpage" (e.g. User:Example/sandbox/Lipsum). ...
because currently a draft is created with this path, I mean, as a subpage of the user's sandbox.

I don’t think it makes a difference whether we mark a userspace draft with “sandbox” or not ... both are located in userspace and that should be clear enough. Blueboar (talk) 15:01, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

If it is in Userspace, there is no difference. They are the same. I suppose you could say that if the user is experimenting with formatting it is a “sandbox”... and if they are experimenting with wording it is a “draft”... but it should be viewed as an experiment in either case. • Userspace Drafts are typically made on a "user subpage" that starts with "User:". Use this format [[User:UserHandle/Lipsum]] (which creates User:UserHandle/Lipsum). Adapt that format to your personal needs.
